CAROLINA STYLE HOT DOG CHILI

Wednesday was National Hot Dog Day.  Not sure if you knew that and I am a bit late on this post but in all honesty, I came home from Texas on Wednesday at 1 am and was not feeling well.  Wound up back at the doctor's office yesterday and back on an antibiotic.  I just came off of one Wednesday morning.  Hoping this one clears up what I have.

Growing up in North Carolina, I ate my hotdogs with chili, bbq slaw, mustard, and onions.  For me, the onions are a new addition.  Only in the last few years have I started to enjoy onions on my dogs.

Chili has become something I have been trying to master since Texas Pete stopped making their wonderful chili.  I can not say this is anything like that chili but I do like this recipe quite a bit.  Until I can figure out how to come close to Texas Pete chili I will be making this chili for my dogs.

It is really rather easy.  I know I say that all the time but I love simple and easy recipes.  Especially when I am sick and have not been able to make my husband a dang hot dog to eat.  I have already spent my energy, so I hope I can regroup with resting and typing this recipe.  I also have cucumbers that I soaked in pickling lime last night and now are soaking in an ice water bath for 3 hours.  I gotta make me some pickles.  Oh yeah, I am talking about chili.  Back on track, Selena Anne.

It is funny I really did not like hotdogs much growing up.  That was due to the fact it is the first thing I remember ever getting sick on.  I did not eat them again until I was pregnant with my son, that was 24 years ago.  I craved them right after having him and to eat them I would cut one in quarters and put a quarter of one on a hotdog bun with tons of slaw and chili.  Needless to say, I love them now and can eat a whole one without any issues.

You need to brown your ground beef.  I used the saute mode on my instant pot because it heats quickly and does a good job.  Then you add your other ingredients, which are ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, chili powder, and some Worchester sauce.

Mix all that up and allow to cook for 10 minutes.  If you are making this on the stove top you might wanna cook longer.

CAROLINA STYLE HOT DOG CHILI

Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons prepared mustard
  • 2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worchester sauce
Directions
  • Brown ground beef.
  • Add all other ingredients and mix well.
  • Cook 10 minutes in instant pot or 30 minutes on stove top.
  • Serve.
There are a few variations to this recipe.  You can cook your ground beef in water.  You can also add onions.  If you use onions add those with the other ingredients.

If anyone out there has a recipe that is similar to Texas Pete please share it in the comments.

ENJOY!!
