YOGURT TREATS FOR YOUR PUP

Here in NC we kind of went from winter to summer.  We really did not have much of a spring and it is still SPRING!  It has been a weird spring.  We had snow in March more than once and then we had 80-degree temps.  We also have had lots of rain which has been hard to be able to get much done outside.

As the weather is getting hotter and hotter I think about all our pets and how to keep them cool and give them some type of relief from the heat.  The rabbits get frozen water in 2-liter re-cycled soda bottles.  The cats are indoors so they are fairly cool but Charley, our Dorkie will be out with me a lot as I work in the garden.  I know she is gonna get hot.  I remember reading about frozen yogurt for your dog a few years ago.  Plus my friend, Michelle, and I have talked about making something like these for her 3 pups.  Well, they are not really pups.  They are rather big beautiful babies.

There are several different types of frozen yogurt treats you can make.  You can use a mix of peanut butter, berries, bananas or just use plain yogurt.

You can use squirt bottles to squeeze out a small amount of yogurt on a parchment paper covered cookie sheet or you can buy silicone molds to make prettier treats.

I actually have some yogurt making now in my instant pot so I am using up my yogurt I made last week to make these treats.

Charley loves my homemade yogurt as does Lola.  Willow is not big on eating anything but her cat food.  So, I am thinking Charley will love the frozen treats when it is scorching hot outside. After all, she loves to munch on ice cubes.

FROZEN PEANUT BUTTER YOGURT TREATS

Ingredients
  • 2 C plain greek yogurt
  •  1/4 C peanut butter
  • 1/2 banana
Directions
  • Melt the peanut butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds.
  • Combine all ingredients and mix well.  You can use a hand mixer, food processor or a blender.
  • Pour into ice cube trays or silicone trays and freeze till solid.
You can lightly grease your trays to help with the removal of your pets treat.  Or use a knife.  I would probably cut myself so I use a bit of spray oil.

FROZEN YOGURT BERRY TREATS

Ingredients
  • 2 C plain greek yogurt
  • 12 strawberries chopped
  • a handful of blueberries
Directions
  • Mix everything together
  • You can put the mix in molds or ice cube trays
  • Freeze until solid.

FROZEN YOGURT TREATS

This is the simplest one.  Just take some plain yogurt and put into a cheap squirt bottle you can pick up at the dollar store.  Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and squirt out the size of the treat you wanna make.  Freeze until solid.

All three treats can be made any way you wish.  You can use ice cube trays, molds or a cookie sheet.  Heck, you could even put some in a container, freeze then scoop out like ice cream.

Not only are frozen yogurt treats a nice way to cool off your pet, you are also giving them something homemade.  Even better if you make your own yogurt then you know what is in the treats.  Another awesome benefit of yogurt is the probiotics in yogurt.  Ya know, those live cultures.  They are also for your pets digestive system.  Yep, we know it is good for us but it is also good for our pets.

ENJOY!!
