MY REVIEW OF A SPIRALIZER

If you have been keeping up with me this week you know since Saturday I have a new not so guilty obsession.  I am totally and 100% addicted to zucchini zoodles.  Oh (sigh a little bit), my not so guilty conscience is clear to have this off my chest.

I can not explain it but I have a thing for zucchini.  I love it.  AND NOW that I know I can have it as a substitute for pasta I am beyond happy.  I mean I have seen zoodles in the grocery stores but being my frugal self I surely was not going to waste money on a small pack of zoodles that is upwards of $5!!!

A couple of weeks ago I was at the lake with my friend Karen and her daughter Brittany and granddaughter Kinsley.  I did not eat them but I saw Karen making zoodles with a julienne slicer/peeler.  Seeing how easy it was to make them I decided that I would give them a try soon.

I have been using my julienne peeler but I had a spiralizer that I have purchased some time back but had not taken out of the box.  Then last night our friend Dimitar was in from Vermont.  He was asking me about my blog and I told him about how much I love zoodles.  Scott asked me how I had been making them and I explained with the julienne peeler.  I told them both I had a spiralizer but had not taken it out of the box.  I am weird at times on how I get about her products and not knowing how to work them.  Dimitar said it was self-explanatory that he loves his.  So, with that said I took it out of the box today.  Well, actually just a few moments ago.

Let me say that I am not sponsored by anyone but I did order this from Amazon due to the impressing reviews.

The directions were very easy to understand.  As Dimitar said it is pretty self-explanatory.

I like the various blades that are offered.  This one has 5 blades.
  1. 2MM Angel Hair
  2. 3 MM Spaghetti
  3. 5 MM Fettuccine
  4. 5.5 Curly Fries
  5. Flat Blade
I have only used the 2MM Angel Hair one so far.  It worked really great and again the directions were simple and easy to understand.  When using a julienne peeler you have quite a bit of waste but this is not true of a spiralizer.

As far as storage for the blades goes, one blade can store in the spiralizer blade chamber.

Another 2 go in a clear box that comes with the purchase and the other 2 under the decking of the spiralizer.

This model has a holding tray that you can sit beside the area the zoodles come out of.  The only thing I have about this is the fact that the zoodles do not automatically go into the holder container.  You have to stop and move them over into it.  As you can see I placed a paper towel in my container to help absorb the natural water from the zucchini.  I have found by doing this step it really helps to keep your zoodles from becoming soggy.

Everything comes apart easily.  Which makes clean up simple.  This product even comes with a cleaning brush.

The container even comes with a lid so you can store your zoodles for later.

The only negative I can find is the fact that the storage container does not fit close enough for the zoodles to fall into as you are making them.  I can not say if this would bother me enough to give it any true negative deduction on a star rating but as of now I am totally satisfied with my purchase and I see me using it a lot.

With all this said, I can not stress enough how nice it is to make zoodles at home.  I mean one ya save money and another fact is what kind of chemicals do that treat the zoodles at the store for them to have longevity?  Just a thought, that all of us should have when we are purchasing food we will be consuming.

Now I am off to make lunch with my zoodles..... Mexican style.  I will have that recipe posting up soon.

In the meantime here are a couple of links to my zoodles recipes.
ENJOY!!
