We got a puppy.  Yep, a puppy.  She is so adorable. Cute as a button.  I could go on and on like a new mother over her first born child.  I will try not to do that to ya'll.  You may be asking what kind of dog did you get?  Well, she is a Yorkhound.  LOL Yourkhound has a story behind it because technically she is a Dorkie but a good friend of mine said he would never allow someone to call his puppy a Dorkie, aka Dork.  John said a York hound sounds much more distinguished. Happy New Year!!!!!  Wow, 2018.  I can not believe how quickly last year flew by.  Maybe this year will slow down a bit.  I doubt it, don't you? What do you do when the ball has dropped and the day has started?  The first day of a new year, do you make resolutions?  I personally think that is setting yourself up for failure but I do believe in a fresh start.  I believe you can do this any day of the year but the first day of the year is good.  So, while you ponder what you are going to do or change this year, let's talk food.  Yep, food.  Good southern New Year's Food.  The way I grew up we ate pork to be prosperous, black eye peas for coin, greens for money and cornbread for gold.   I remember sitting in the kitchen of my grandparent's house when I was very young and hearing my grandma and mama talk about what black eye peas were for on New Year's Day.  I remember my grandpa saying they were for pennies but nowada...

I just love me some football.  I am four years younger than my brother and growing up like I did with him being a huge sports fan, you watched football.  There were no if and or buts about that subject either.  You also pulled for the Pittsburgh Steelers.  It is funny I remember sitting in the living room on the couch with my dad and brother watching football.  My brother always sat in a chair next to the couch and there was a huge ottoman in front of it that he would roll with his feet back and forth.  This drove my mom crazy.  So, crazy that she had my dad nail down that ottoman to the floor so my brother could no longer roll it around. Funny the silly things you recall from your youth.  Back to football, I really loved watching football with them.  It was almost a ritual in our home.  Lord forbid if you changed the channel during football.  Well, actually I do not even remember doing that but I know it was a huge NO NO...

I look out my window in our living room and see it just looks cold.  Have I said I do not like the cold weather? The sun did finally come out but it is still cold.  Brr. Well, it is cold for me.  I went out to feed the rabbits, quail, and turkeys my hands were frozen by the time I came back inside. I was so glad to get back into the warm house. I know when Scott reads this he will laugh at me because he loves the cold weather.  Plus I know he probably does not think it is cold. Today just feels colder than normal to me.  It's not windy so I have no clue why it feels so cold to me. Wonder if there is a scientific reason for why some days feel colder then others when it is the same temperature?  I am so not a winter person. I do not care for cold weather.  I do like snow but here in North Carolina it rarely stays around long. We Southerners have all different kinds of sayings such as fixin too, it won't amount to a hill of beans, over yonder, she is mad as a wet hen, I do declare, lord have mercy, I reckon, worn slap out, hold your horses, bless your heart, getting too big for your britches etc.  If you are not from the south you may not have a clue what we are talking about or referring to when making certain comments or you might just make fun of us for what we grew up saying, which I reckon is fine with me.  My husband, Scott is from Pittsburgh, PA.  We meet 8 years ago in North Carolina, one day I will tell you how we met which is another entry for the blog.  I have always lived in North Carolina.  He has not, duh...right, because he is from Pittsburgh.   If you know anything about us Southerners we are polite to the point of ridiculousness.  We will even say we are sorry for saying we are sorry.  Which brings me to "bless your heart"...

Scott and I have been gardening together from the beginning of our romance, growing the normal things in a small Southern garden, such as bell peppers, jalapenos, heirloom tomatoes, okra, yellow squash, zucchini, and cucumbers.  Since the garden is small we have never really had the room for much more.  I so miss not having green beans in my garden.   This is the story of how I made my husband love hot peppers, simply and totally by accident and totally due to my desire for a ghost pepper plant.
